Parenting Courses

For single or married people, or for a parent who has been referred on by social services.

Our parenting courses take place in Cork and are run 4/5 times per year. They run over 6 weeks with limited free Creche places. The first week provides an overview of the course, goal setting, limits of confidentiality in respect of child protection legislation, parenting styles and a look at early childhood attachment and the importance of an attuned relationship. The other 5 weeks are devoted to delivering 10 modules with worksheets and home assignments. We try to keep numbers to approximately 10/12 per group as it allows for more intimate groups where people feel included and at ease with each other. Our staff are trained in One Family and Strengthening Family modules and have worked therapeutically with children and families for a number of years.

The course is aimed at any parent who is either alone or co-parenting. The course is available to mothers, fathers and family members who feel they might need help, advice and support!

Our trainers use the Parent Plus Model devised by John Sharry. The model is a highly regarded course with well documented research that supports it’s strengths. The Parent Plus Model looks at attunement, building strong relationships with a child, the importance of positive attention, the importance of play, the importance of problem solving, conflict resolution and stress reduction for parents. We also use the One Family Positive Parenting Course Model.

Some parents feel that there are lots of supports during pregnancy but their life becomes a barren wilderness when the baby is born. Hopefully our parenting support and parenting courses aim to address that issue!
